Here are five songs I’ve been kicking it to lately.  We out here.

Angels (PACES BOOTLEG) – The xx

Sun Airway – “Close” (Beat Connection Remix)

Submotion Orchestra – Blindspot (Maribou State Remix)

Obedear (Noah Hydes Magic Sword Remix)

Chris Malinchak – If U Got It

Kid Cudi is back with the first cut off of indicud featuring King Chip, previously known as Chip Tha Ripper.  It was produced by Cudi himself and premiered on Complex.  I’m really glad to hear Kid Cudi returning to his rap roots and doing what he does best, a big change from his previous project WZRD.  Cudi seems to finally be comfortable with where he is and it appears he’s ready to get back to being my favorite artist in the game.  Peep this Compex interview to read up on where he’s at and how things with the G.O.O.D. music family are going.

I became a single song fan of Cheers Elephant back when I downloaded “Leaves”.  Now I love two songs by them and that was all the convincing I needed to download their newish album.  You can do the same if you go and download their album that came out back in May.  It’s called Like Wind Blows Fire and you can get it over on their Bandcamp.  They even did a video in 3D which you can check out on their website too.

I will continue to post everything done by Xaphoon Jones until the day I shut my laptop and stop blogging.  His style is my style and you can meet me at the corner of Pineapple Street.

Atlas Genius – Trojans (Xaphoon Jones Remix)

Here’s the original version.

So it’s been a while since I shared some tunes with you and Smike has been sure to remind me of that every chance he gets.  Forgive me, I’m a bit laid back during the summer time, but hey it’s only natural.  With this post I give you a variety of what I’ve been listening to lately and a continuation of the “To Summer” series. Be sure to give XV’s track off of Popular Culture a listen.  I wasn’t crazy about the overall tape but that’s a hot track.

Variety is important for every avid music listener, especially during the summer.  This is a time when you’re usually in a good enough mood to listen to just about anything that doesn’t depress you so dig deep into your music library, give those throwbacks a few clicks, and let this music make whatever you’re doing that much better.

Tennis – Petition (vacationer remix)

The Notorious B.I.G. vs. Ellie Goulding – Under The Funk (Carlos Serrano Mix)

Pac Div – Automatic (Prod. by Swiff D)

XV – Her Favorite Song ft Raja (prod by The Awesome Sound)

Kings of Leon – Molly’s Chambers

Kaskade – Lessons In Love (Kaskade’s ICE Mix)

So my man Alex Delany of The Pantalones and guest blogger here at 201BEATS turned me onto Lana Del Rey a few months ago.  Call me crazy but I kind of wish this video just started at the 1:17 mark.  I think the only reason I feel that way is because I just want the song to start when the video does.  To sum up this video in one sentence: Lana Del Rey is super sexy with her Jacqueline Kennedy inspired swag and A$AP Rocky is just there to be a boss.

Lana Del Rey is one of those artists who can not be imitated.  She has her own formula as an artist and it appears to be one that works since this video already has racked up over 328,000 views in less than 24 hours.  Impressive for someone who isn’t a household name just yet…or is she?

So I broke the news to you guys about Cris Cab a few months ago and this is the first new release I’ve heard from him since.  This one features the likeness of G.O.O.D. Music’s Big Sean.  The two artists have more in common than you would initially think.  Big Sean was taken under the wing of Kanye, and Cris Cab is being mentored by the one and only Pharrell.  Who would you rather have take you under your wing? Kanye or Pharrell? Decisions, decisions, decisions. Hah.

It’s only a matter of time before Cris Cab produces a hit, for now just enjoy his sweet sounding voice and melodies while he is still an up and comer.  Cris Cab reminds me of what a hypothetical love child between an early, more Pop influenced John Mayer, Bob Marley, and Wyclef Jean would sound like.  Doesn’t get much better than that.

Cris Cab – Good Girls (Don’t Grow On Trees) (feat. Big Sean)

Catch up with Cris Cab by giving his debut free album a listen, presented by the Billionaire Boys Club, over on his Soundcloud.

It’s a beautiful day here in the greater New York City area, this is the most absolutely perfect weather you could ask for.  So, what better way to enjoy the picture perfect weather than with this video from Poolside, titled “Slow Down” this song will inspire you to soak up the sun, slow down, and enjoy yourself.

Bonus summer beat.  The Penelopes released a set of three remixes to their song “Summer Life“, one by Viceroy, Style of Eye, and Gigamesh.  Give the one by Gigamesh a listen below.  It’s quick, fun, quirky, and will fit well on any playlist with the song above.

Here is a bit of reinforcement for why I’ve been saying Xaphoon Jones is one of the most talented producers in the game for about two and a half years now.

He linked up with XV and put together some Xaphoon-esque instrumentals tailored to XV’s needs.  I haven’t been impressed by XV’s recent releases but I dig this one.  It’s been a while XV, hope you’re back for good.

He spent some time in the studio with Ellie Goulding and released this Weeknd cover a couple days ago.

Summer fun rock.
Ghost Beach – MIRACLE

Every time I listen to this song it reminds me of a modern day Bob Dylan.  Very soulful folk rock.
The Tallest Man On Earth – 1904

Here’s a bonus beat driven by samples in a way that is reminiscent of artists like Madeon and Gramatik.
Kill Paris – Shades of Funk
